NHS health checks are being offered to people aged between 40 and 74 in your community. The NHS health check is designed to spot the early signs of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease and dementia.
The check should take about 20–30 minutes and is based on straightforward questions and measurements such as age, sex, family history, height, weight and blood pressure. You will also need a simple blood test to measure your cholesterol level and diabetes risk.
Following the check, you will receive free personalised advice about what you can do to stay healthy and reduce your risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease and dementia.
To be eligible you must:
- Be aged 40 – 74
- Have not had a stroke, or do not already have heart disease, diabetes or kidney disease
- Be registered Manchester GP practice
- Have not had an NHS health check in last 5 years
To book your check or for more information please contact Ben Rydings, NHS health check coordinator on 0770 2872 861.
